The best part of breaks from work and having a lot of friends who are also teachers is having time to get together and catch up on each others lives.
In the two weeks I have had off, I have been able to get together with 5 friends and I hope to add two more to the list on Monday.
Chats, laughs, challenges, resolutions all happen at the nondescript tables of restaurants and coffee houses. Private thoughts shared, secrets told and hugs. No matter how good the man in our lives is, nothing can replace that girl time. He will never understand like your girlfriends will and your girlfriends will always be there, no matter what you need and no matter if you have a man in your life or not. I love my girlfriends. They are more family than not. Some know you better than you know yourself. Some know just by a public word typed on Twitter or Facebook that a phone call is in order to see what in the world is going on and why did you type that thing that certain way.
One friend of mine knows me so well that she knew I was getting a divorce because she didn't receive a Valentine's Day "holiday" note card and knew that something wasn't right since she always got a notecard for every holiday.
My very best friend would have celebrated her 61st birthday today. Unfortunately, cancer took her away from me many years too early. Happy Birthday, Mom! I love and miss you every day.
Yes, I am blessed. My girlfriends have seen me through, boyfriends, marriage, child birth, divorce, more boyfriends, cancer, college and so much more. I don't know what I would do without them in my life. They are always there and there is something to be said for friends.
